Cambodia's Royal Government Allocates Nearly $100 Million Annually for Healthcare Social Security Program

Melbourne, Australia: Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the Royal Government of Cambodia is dedicating nearly $100 million each year to a social security program aimed at providing healthcare to 9 million Cambodian citizens. This declaration was made during a gathering with the Cambodian community in Australia on March 3, 2024.

The Prime Minister emphasized the commitment to social welfare, stating, "With this policy in place, we are allocating a budget of around $100 million annually to assist, targeting 9 million people under the social security program."

This healthcare initiative is designed to fully cover the medical services for the nation's poorest, requiring no contributions from them, as the state covers 100 percent of the expenses. Currently, this policy benefits approximately 490,000 families, translating to 1.8 million individuals.

Additionally, the program extends to members of the National Social Security Fund, including spouses and dependent children, who are required to contribute 15,600 Riels (approximately $3.90) per month. To date, 2 million people have joined this initiative, aligning with the government's socialist policies.

Prime Minister Hun Manet further explained the program's objectives, "We aim for 9 million people to no longer worry about healthcare expenses. The state is here to help, offering a program they can join. This is crucial for ensuring our citizens' health and well-being."

The Cambodian Government officially launched this comprehensive Social Security and Health Care System through Voluntary Contribution on November 14, 2023, marking a significant step towards enhancing public health services and social security in Cambodia.
